The only things that spring to mind when I reflect on my upbringing are safety and love. It was made clear to me from the minute I was born that I came from a loving family that simply wanted the best for me.
Regretfully, not every child receives the same degree of protection. Some kids are raised in foster homes and shelters and never get to experience the joys of having a real family of their own. Some are raised in foster care.
Thankfully, KC and Lena Currie adopted and reared three brothers from Sudbury, Massachusetts, so they will know this information this Christmas.
The family, which consists of Joey, 3, Logan, 2, and Noah, 1, who are biological brothers, moved into their new permanent home on November 23rd in honor of National Adoption Day.
A year ago, KC and Lena became official adoptive parents when they adopted Joey. At the time, they were two people.
As reported by Good Morning America, Joey was initially encountered by KC and Lena at a Children’s Friend event in New York City.
The following steps make up the adoption process:
We saw a photo of Joey, and Children’s Friend said that [it] would be a great fit, as Lena observed. The author states, “He was just 18 months old.”
They were successful in adopting Joey in March. However, that was just the start of the tale.
Shortly later, a call from Children’s Friend informed the Curries that Joey had a 6-week-old brother named Noah who also needed a place of his own.
After quickly saying yes, KC and Lena learned that there was a third brother, Logan, whose adoption into a different family had failed because of financial issues. This was seen by the Curries as an indication that someone was trying to get in touch with them.
Less than a month after they brought Noah into their house, Logan moved in with his brothers.
KC told GMA, “It was just a gut instinct.” We needed to keep the boys together, so it felt unavoidable that we would say yes. They will have one another to rely on and share the experience of going through it together when they are older and have questions.”
It is no little task that KC and Lena have taken on the burden of three children under the age of four. Nevertheless, they deserve praise for their bravery and tenacity in parenting these kids.
Joey, Logan, and Noah will be able to enjoy the great blessing of growing up in a loving household and being able to mature as a family as a result.
“This is the first year, this is the first Christmas where everything is real and lasting,” Lena remarks.
“At this point, we can begin daydreaming about elementary school, sports, and other interesting stuff,” KC went on.
